Weekly Zoom Meeting

Greetings Rotarians,

We are all facing such uncertain times at this point in our lives.  No one could ever imagine what our world, nation, state and communities would be going through at this time.  We have no idea how long this will last.  Many communities have ordered their population to shelter in place and if not so ordered to avoid contact with others as much as possible and maintain social distancing.

At this time, we as Rotarians, must try our best to live up to this year’s theme of Rotary Connects The World.  More importantly we must first continue to connect with each other.  Our Club will start utilizing  Zoom Meetings so we can continue this connection. Zoom is an online group meeting platform that allows us to all log in via a link and see each other face to face. We can chat, share ideas, view presentations and watch videos together within this platform and we want to be able to share this with each of you!

Our  meetings will be held at our normal time and day, Tuesday's at 0730am and we will continue to find ways to serve our communities and Connect The World!

Directions for joining us: Click on this link and simply follow the directions if you are using your laptop or desktop. You will be given the choice to either download the software to run Zoom or to simply open and run the meeting in your browser which does not require a download. If you want to join on your phone or a tablet you will need to first download the free app from your “store” and create an account and then click on the link below. The other option is to join us in audio only mode by dialing into the number below. However, I encourage you try the Zoom meeting link so I can see your smiling faces. 

If you try to get in but cannot due to technical issues, please e-mail me so I will know how many of you could not get in and we will make sure you get a video recording of the meeting. In addition, we will know what questions to answer to accommodate more participants. 

We need to keep our Rotary connections and Service Above Self in the forefront of our minds as we continue our daily lives even during these times of uncertainty, perhaps even more now. These connections will help us all get through this and make us stronger when it is all over.  I invite you all to join us this Tuesday.  Please stay safe and healthy and I look forward to seeing you all on Zoom this Tuesday.

During the next few weeks, you may see the club using the online meeting platform called "Zoom" for conference calls, board meetings, etc. Here are some common FAQ's that might help you get used to this new tool.

How do I join a Zoom meeting?
You can join a meeting by clicking the meeting link or going to and entering in the meeting ID. Learn more about joining a meeting.  

How do I join computer/device audio?
On most devices, you can join computer/device audio by clicking Join Audio, Join with Computer Audio, or Audio to access the audio settings. Learn more about connecting your audio.

Can I Use Bluetooth Headset?
Yes, as long as the Bluetooth device is compatible with the computer or mobile device that you are using.

Do I have to have a webcam to join on Zoom?
While you are not required to have a webcam to join a Zoom Meeting or Webinar, you will not be able to transmit video of yourself. You will continue to be able to listen and speak during the meeting, share your screen, and view the webcam video of other participants. 

Guidelines for use

When we are meeting using Zoom a few guidelines need to be followed to use our time effectively: -

  1. Please logon to the meeting early to ensure that audio and video are set up correctly and to give the meeting host an opportunity to check the audio levels at your end. Also gives you a chance to chat to other members before the meeting officially starts.
  2. During presentations all participants apart from the speaker will be muted.  Should you wish to ask a question please either 'raise your hand' or send a chat message to the meeting host and unmute your microphone. 
  3. Should the presenter wish to share their screen press “Share Screen” and select the application to share. 
  4. Please note that the meetings may be recorded for fellow members to view at a later date.
  5. Please have your microphone muted until it’s your turn to speak. If you have no need to speak, and you haven’t already been muted by the presenter, mute yourself.
